Lewis Hamilton

April 15, 2007

Those with a long memory might remember me writing a blog entry about Lewis Hamilton somewhere around the middle of last year. At the time I was hoping he’d get a Formula 1 drive this year. Those who follow the sport know that he has and that’s been totally brilliant in the first two races — third place in his first race, second place last week, and a damn good chance at a win tonight. We’ll see; it will be a very, very interesting race to watch. If you only watch one Formula 1 race a year, watch tonight.

If you’re in any doubt about how good Lewis is, check this out. His second ever race and he makes two experience Ferrari drivers look very amateur.

Yeah, the commentators were pretty bad. His smoothness is very Prost-like; you’re absolutely right. Hardly looks like he’s working, but always just as fast as he needs to be but no more.

I think with Lewis the question isn’t about whether he’ll ever be as good as Prost or Senna; it’s about how much better he will be.

Two races into his first season and I’m tipping that Lewis is one of the all time greats of the sport that we’ll be telling Adelaide’s grandchildren about.

Slick driving, shame about the commentary (was that Iron Chef or a race?) Lewis’s moves reminded just a little of Prost ;-) Wonder where he positions his steering wheel…
