Lisa, The Kids and I had a day trip to the Bellarine Peninsula today. We went to Queenscliff for lunch, then over to Ocean Grove for a look around and a paddle in the ocean.

… has screwed up the formatting of my blog bigtime. I didn’t change anything; I swear. Hope they fix it soon.
Tie up the loose ends. I had a quick go but had to get back to work. Could burn way too much time on this.
A prankster edited the wikipedia page on the Cypriot soccer club AC Omonia to include the “facts” that their fans are referred to as “the zany ones”, wear hats made of shoes, and sing a song about a little potato.
Thursday night there was a match between AC Omonia and Manchester City. The Daily Mirror’s built-up article included those facts.
Despite City’s raised profile, they must make do with the UEFA Cup this season and Hughes will not tolerate any slip-ups against the Cypriot side, whose fans are known as the ‘Zany Ones’ and wear hats made from shoes.

At SES training last night there was a long and involved discussion on the problems associated with us being called out to accidents.
When Joe Q Public (that’s you!) comes across an accident, you call 000 and ask for either the police or an ambulance. There’s a very convoluted procedure behind the scenes where D24 and ESTA (the emergency services telecommunication authority) will dispatch the relevant services to the incident.
One problem that commonly occurs is that the SES are not activated at the same time as the police and ambulance. The SES should be activated if (a) the caller informs the 000 operator that there are people trapped in a vehicle, or (b) the accident occurs on a section of road where the posted speed limit is 80km/hr or above, regardless of whether people are trapped or not. The operator should ask the caller whether other emergency services are required, but they generally don’t.
This can often result in a situation where the police and ambulance are on scene long before the SES are, and when casualties can’t be treated properly because they’re trapped in a vehicle, precious time is lost.
So here’s my plea: if you come across an accident, you should call 000 and ask for the police. When you speak to the D24 emergency desk, be proactive and tell the operator whether people are trapped or not (and how many) as well as how many people are injured. Specifically saying “there are x people trapped and road crash rescue services are required” could well save a life or two.
The Kid had a mini Olympics event at Girl Guides tonight. The usual kids kind of games: egg and spoon race, three legged race, etc. Lots of Dads went along to participate. The Kid and I won the piggy back race! Woohoo!

The new car has arrived! It was due to reach us on September 30th, but we got it a few weeks early.
There’s a few little things about it that we don’t like, but they’re minor niggles. Overall it’s a ripper of a car; everything we thought it would be. It drives really, really well. It handles beautifully. The brakes are brilliant, the engine is superb (as a 6.0 litre V8 should be!) and the gearbox works great.
For an Australian car it’s extremely good. Holden should be proud of what they’ve done.
As Lisa has pointed out, the blogroll (‘links’ submenu) is currently not showing on my blog. I’ve checked the underlying design and it’s definitely still there, so I can only assume that it’s a wordpress related problem. This blog is hosted so I have no control over it. If it doesn’t come back in the next day or two I’ll dig deeper.
Who said what?
