Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting my first wedding!
The lighting in the church was a real challenge. It had four very tall windows along the western wall and although they flooded the space with light it was very patchy and high contrast. It was far too big a space to fill with flash, so I had to rely on shooting at a high ISO and cleaning up the noise later. A faster lens would definitely have made life easier!
After the wedding we went down to the Kerferd Road pier and took some shots there too. A friend of the groom met us there with some fantastic lighting gear (a bag full of SB800s, Radio Poppers, reflectors and soft boxes) so even as the ambient light was disappearing we made our own light. It was a very windy day so that presented another set of challenges, but we battled on.
Overall I’m pretty happy with the result. I’ve got 650 shots to go through, and I think I’ll probably get somewhere around 40-50 to present.
Lisa took this fantastic photo of Fred the other evening. The flash was bounced off the brickwork around the front door.

The Kid’s school participated in Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea today. It’s a fund raising event held every year by the Cancer Council. Parents send a plate of food to school and a gold coin donation allows the kids to pick what they want. The school had a 30 meter long table full of food.
You can’t turn up at a kids school event without taking photos, of course.

I can’t believe she’s 2 years old!
Continuing on from the celebrations over the weekend (trip to the Zoo and C’s kids having dinner over here Sunday night) we had a birthday dinner for Baboo today.
Fred, Peter and Grandma Joy came over for dinner. We cooked some fish on the BBQ and had a nice salad with it. When Peter and Diane got here we had cake, then more cake.
This little girl is a year older than our youngest. We’ve known her since she was a wee little baby and watched her growing up. She’s doing so well – a great little kid who just loves having fun with our kids. She came over last night for dinner and she was around tonight too because Lisa was babysitting.
I’m not sure that I’ve completely captured her character here, but I think it’s getting close.

As well as our little girl visiting the zoo on Saturday we had some friends come over for dinner last night. Unfortunately I had to disappear to go on the search I mentioned earlier today, but I was around long enough for Lisa and I to pester the kids with the camera.

On Saturday about 15 of us went to the Zoo to celebrate Little Baby’s 2nd birthday. Uncles, Aunts, Grandparents, Parents, siblings and even an overseas student staying with Aunty Eve were all there.
Baboo has never been to the zoo. She reads lots of books with her big sister, so she knew about elephants and giraffes and lions and tigers, but this was her first chance to see them up close. She really enjoyed it.
Lisa and I took just under 500 photos on the day, and I haven’t had a good chance to go through too many of them yet, but there’s a few here to look at.

Hey! I was on this search yesterday.
In this video, Martin Brundle (best F1 commentator ever IMNSHO) does a brilliant job of explaining why Formula One is so much more than just driving a car around in a circle.
Tomorrow is the Million Paws walk, one of the RSPCA fund raising activities. Some people complained that cats were left out, so they’ve got an online Million Purrs website where people can create a virtual cat, upload pictures of their own cat, and get sponsorship for their cat.
The Kid created a cat and uploaded a shot of Tambo. Lisa and I gave her some sponsorship money. If you’re considering giving the RSPCA a donation this year it would be great if you could do it this way. The Kid was so excited to see her name appear on the leaderboard for Victoria.
Who said what?
