My first wedding

Yesterday I had the pleasure of shooting my first wedding!

The lighting in the church was a real challenge. It had four very tall windows along the western wall and although they flooded the space with light it was very patchy and high contrast. It was far too big a space to fill with flash, so I had to rely on shooting at a high ISO and cleaning up the noise later. A faster lens would definitely have made life easier!

After the wedding we went down to the Kerferd Road pier and took some shots there too. A friend of the groom met us there with some fantastic lighting gear (a bag full of SB800s, Radio Poppers, reflectors and soft boxes) so even as the ambient light was disappearing we made our own light. It was a very windy day so that presented another set of challenges, but we battled on.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the result. I’ve got 650 shots to go through, and I think I’ll probably get somewhere around 40-50 to present.
