Keep on truckin’
As mentioned a week or two back I spent this weekend on a truck driving course held on behalf of the SES. I was part of a team of 10 people that learnt how to drive a medium rigid truck. That’s a vehicle with two axles and weight of 8 tonnes or more (with a trailer of up to 9 tonnes).
Tomorrow I need to go into VicRoads and swap my current Victorian licence for a national licence with medium rigid endorsement.
From now on I’ll be replacing every utterance of “ok” with “10-4, Big Buddy”.
Shaun the sheep?
Alex
Meet Alex, the latest addition to our family!
I spoke to Brad late last week about getting a lamb (given that it’s lambing season) but figured we’d get one that had been weaned from its mother and was relatively independent. He called today and said this lamb was born Saturday (it’s two days old) and had been rejected by its mother, so it needed to be bottle fed for a few weeks. If we didn’t take it, the lamb would probably not make it. Given that Lisa can’t pass up an animal in distress I said we’d take it.
He’s a dorper – black face and one black leg. Dorper’s drop their own wool, so they don’t need shearing.
Big Girl wanted to write something about Alex too: Alex is our new lamb. We think we should call him Alex, but we’re not so sure. Could you please tell us a name we could call him?
Cute overload
Today was T’s second birthday. He was born about 10 days after Baboo.
There were half a dozen kids at the party, including our two. Oh, and Gerard and Michelle’s kids:
T’s big brother J was there too, of course:
We spent a few hours there, then came home to get some peace and quiet. Kids parties are always so noisy!
Early this evening Lisa and the kids did some baking:
Foggy morning
This morning it was wonderfully foggy. As a photographer in a rural area you’re almost obliged to go out with the camera.
Colour calibration
Last night I was talking to Lisa about the church interior I posted on flickr:
She told me that it looks very different on her monitor than on mine. She tells me it’s very, very yellow – but on my laptop it’s a subtle range of oranges, tans and yellows.
What do you see? Is Lisa’s monitor colour calibration wrong or is my laptop the one that’s out of whack?
EDIT: One thing that’s interesting is the image colour balance shown on my blog is not the same as the colour balance shown by flickr! What’s up with that? The flickr image is definitely lighter than the blog posted copy, despite the fact that I’ve sent the same .JPG file to both.
Medium rigid
The weekend after next I’m going on a driver training course to get my medium rigid driver’s licence. The VicRoads website says this will let me:
… drive any two axle rigid vehicle, including bus and truck, greater than 8 tonnes GVM. You may tow a single trailer (other than a semi trailer) up to 9 tonne GVM or to the manufactures specifications (whichever is less).
I’m going on this course with one of the other members in the SES unit because our new rescue truck requires a medium rigid licence.
Who said what?
