Stupid, stupid newbie mistake

July 9, 2009

I’m kicking myself for making such a stupid newbie mistake tonight. Had the camera at Mum and Dad’s dinner table and I couldn’t work out why every shot was way, way overexposed. Did nothing out of the ordinary. It was only when I got the images back into the laptop and saw how grainy they were that I realised I was still set on ISO1600 from some deliberately grainy shots I was playing with a few days ago. Dang.

Managed to salvage two shots. Neither are particularly good.

Lesson learned? Check the basics. Always, always check the basics.

Cough, Embarrassed Look – kind of like me shooting 1/3 of a stop under for about a month, as I’d managed to change the default stop setting without realizing how I had done it?

Thank god it was only 1/3 of a stop… otherwise the RAW shooting would have really had to come into its own…
